Dominguez, Schwindel Share Offensive Player of the Week Honor
October 09, 2012

Jennifer Dominguez (Iowa State), Kate Schwindel (West Virginia),  Abby Smith (Texas) and Bri Campos (Baylor) have earned Big 12 Soccer Weekly accolades for games played from Oct. 5-7.

This is the second recognition for Schwindel and Smith, and first honor for both Dominguez and Campos.

Dominguez and Schwindel become the first Co-Offensive Players of the Week since Sept. 6, 2011.

Offensive Players of the Week
Jennifer Dominguez, Iowa State, Jr., F, Lubbock, Texas
Dominguez registered four goals in two conference matches last weekend.  Against TCU Friday night, she scored the first goal in the history of the Cyclone Sports Complex and later tallied an insurance goal in Iowa State's 2-0 win. Sunday, against league-leading West Virginia, Dominguez found the back of the net two more times.  Dominguez currently leads the Big 12 in goals scored (11).  She is just the second Cyclone to score at least 11 goals in a season in program history. For the weekend, the junior had four goals, eight points, one game-winning goal, 11 shots, two starts and six shots on goal in 139 minutes of action and recorded an impressive .545 shots-on-goal percentage.

Kate Schwindel, West Virginia, So., F, Livingston, N.J.
Schwindel totaled five points in two wins, helping WVU go a perfect 2-0 on the weekend, the only league team to do so. Against Kansas, she scored the game-winner for her eighth goal of the season and took a game-best seven shots. Against Iowa State, Schwindel dished out assists on all three goals in WVU's 3-2 road win. The three-assist day is the second of her career, matching her three-helper day against High Point earlier this season and tying a school record for assists in a single game. Schwindel leads the Big 12 in assists (7) and points (23). WVU is 5-1-2 this season when Schwindel records at least one point.

Defensive Player of the Week
Abby Smith, Texas, Fr., GK, Plano, Texas
Smith pushed her shutout streak to three-straight matches with a blanking of No. 22 Oklahoma State on Friday. She tallied three saves to give UT its first win over a top-25 opponent since topping the fifth-ranked Cowgirls 1-0 on Oct. 22, 2010. The triumph also upped the Longhorns' unbeaten streak to five matches. The rookie has started all three Big 12 matches and has not allowed a goal in 270 minutes of action. The Plano, Texas-native is the anchor of the only defense in the league that has not allowed a goal in a Big 12 contest. Smith's performance Friday helped Texas improve to 3-0-0 in league action for the first time since opening the 2002 Conference campaign at 9-0-0.

Newcomer of the Week
Bri Campos, Baylor, Fr., F, Centennial, Colo.
Campos had a goal and an assist in Baylor's 3-2 double overtime victory at Texas Tech. The freshman scored her first goal of the season and first goal of her career at the most opportune time for the Bears. Campos had the game-winning golden goal in the 105th minute of action to give BU its first win in Lubbock since 2004. On the season, Campos has one goal and three assists. With the victory, Baylor improved to 11-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in Big 12 play. It is the first time Baylor has been undefeated in its opening three Big 12 games since 1998. The win breaks a string of three straight losses in Lubbock.
