The Longhorns (24-4) swept Colgate and will face Texas A&M on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT in Austin. Iowa State rallied from a 1-2 deficit to defeat IP Fort Wayne and record its 11th straight victory. The Cyclones (21-7) will face North Carolina, who knocked off California in the first round, at 7:30 p.m. CT in Ames on Friday. In addition to the Conference's two second round matches on Friday, Oklahoma (vs. Arizona State) and Kansas (vs. Cleveland State) will compete in first round matches.
K-State was swept by Northern Iowa in Lincoln and finishes the 2012 season 21-9. Both UT and ISU advanced to Regional action in 2011. Texas improves to 26-0 in first round matches while Iowa State is 7-1. The two teams also hold winning marks in second round play.
With the two wins, the Big 12 improves to 74-23 in NCAA first round action and 157-96 overall.
Teams advancing past the second round will move on to regional play Dec. 7 and 8. The pre-determined regional sites are: Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif., CenturyLink Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb., Gregory Gymnasium in Austin, Texas, and Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind. Regional semifinals will be telecast on ESPN3 with regional finals available on ESPNU.
Each quarterfinal winner will advance to semifinal action in Louisville, Ky., held Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6 or 8 p.m. CT at the KFC YUM! Center. The national championship match will be played at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 15. Both the national semifinal and national championship will be on ESPN2/ESPN3.
