Big 12 Lands Six on Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Teams

Six Big 12 baseball student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger pre-season All-American baseball teams, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Oklahoma, TCU and Texas each represented with a pair of selections. The Sooners' Dillon Overton and Jonathan Gray were second team members, along with UT's Corey Knebel and Erich Weiss. The Horned Frogs placed right-handers Preston Morrison and Andrew Mitchell on the third team.

Overton posted a 6-3 record in 2012 with a 3.15 ERA in 22 games for OU. He fanned 126 batters in 122.6 innings, which ranked second in the league in both categories. Gray's eight wins last season tied for sixth-most in the Big 12, and he posted a 3.16 record in 102.6 innings of work. Gray started all 18 games in which he appeared. The pair of pitchers led Oklahoma to appearances in the Big 12 Championship finale and an NCAA Super Regional.

One of the top relief pitchers in the league, Knebel went 4-5 in 2012 with nine saves and a 2.08 ERA. He enters his junior season tied for eighth on the Big 12's all-time career saves list with 28 and has an ERA of 1.67 over his past two seasons. Weiss, the 2011 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, ranked fifth in the league last season with a .350 batting clip. He also finished his sophomore campaign in the top 10 in doubles (17), total bases (111), on-base percentage (.428) and slugging percentage (.547).

League newcomer TCU's Morrison and Mitchell combined for a 14-5 record for the Horned Frogs in 2012. Morrison, a sophomore this season, was 9-2 with a 2.08 ERA, appearing in 22 games and starting 11. Mitchell started 16 of the 17 contests in which he appeared finishing with a 5-3 mark and 3.74 ERA.

Oklahoma (No. 14 ), TCU (No. 15) and Texas (No. 21) are also ranked in Collegiate Baseball's preseason poll.

The 2012 Big 12 baseball season begins on Friday, Feb. 15 with conference play kicking off the weekend of March 15.
