January 01, 2013
By Wendell Barnhouse | Correspondent

Conference play starts Wednesday for all 10 Big 12 women's basketball teams. Based on nonconference play, the 18-game schedule will be a grind for the next two months.

The strength of the Big 12 is obvious with defending national champion Baylor again the favorite to cut down the nets at the Final Four. But there is plenty of depth.

The Big 12 is No. 1 in conference RPI by both Collegiate Basketball News and Sagarin ratings. Also, the Big 12 is the only conference with every team rated in the top 103 of the CBN RPI.

For the sixth consecutive season, every Big 12 team finished the non-conference with winning records.

With conference play starting, here is the predicted order of finish in the preseason poll voted on by the coaches: 1, Baylor; 2, Oklahoma; 2, West Virginia; 4, Kansas; 5, Texas; 6, Iowa State; 7, Oklahoma State; 8, Texas Tech; 9, Kansas State; 10, TCU.
