Texas Sweeps First Weekly Track & Field Honors

Texas duo Keiron Stewart and Danielle Dowie have been named Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for competition Jan. 11-13.  It is the first weekly honor for both student-athletes.

Stewart helped lead the third-ranked Longhorns to a near upset of No. 1 Arkansas Friday with a team-high 8.75 points. The senior won the 60-meter hurdles in 7.74 and was second in the 60 meters (6.80) to earn eight points in the 16-event meet. The four-time All-American also ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay that was second in 3:13.83. His 60-meter hurdles time is the second-fastest in the nation this season and ranks No. 10 on the UT all-time performance list. Stewart now owns six of the 10 fastest 60mh times in school history.

Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week
Danielle Dowie, Texas, Jr., Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica
Dowie recorded a pair of indoor personal bests in the 200m (23.75) and 400m (53.95), placing first in both events.  She owns the top 400m time in the nation, the only competitor to post a sub-54.00 mark thus far in the 2013 season.  The junior's 200m time ranks seventh nationally. Dowie also ran the second leg and recorded the fastest split for Texas' 4x400-meter relay team, which placed first and also owns the top mark nationally.
