Oklahoma & Oklahoma State Claim First Baseball Weekly Awards for 2013
February 18, 2013
Oklahoma's Matt Oberste and Dillon Overton, along with Oklahoma State's Tanner Krietemeier are the recipients of the first installment of the 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 baseball weekly awards.

Oberste claims his first career Player of the Week honor, while Overton earns his second Pitcher of the Week award. Krietemeier, a transfer from Iowa Western Community College, picks up the Newcomer of the Week distinction.

This is the first time since April 27, 2009, that the Sooners have swept the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards.

Matt Oberste, Oklahoma, Jr., INF, Salisaw, Okla./Connors State College
Oberste's one-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning propelled No. 14 Oklahoma to a 7-4 victory over Hofstra Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman and secured a four-game weekend series sweep. Oberste capped off a big opening weekend with his game-winning bomb. He hit .429 with six hits - including a double, a triple and the homer - while driving in a team-high nine runs. His clutch hitting helped the Sooners rally for a three-run ninth inning Saturday night, as he cracked a two-out, two-RBI single to knot the contest at 10-all and send the game into extras. After the first week of play, his nine RBI and 12 total bases lead the Big 12.

Dillon Overton, Oklahoma, Jr., LHP, Weatherford, Okla./Weatherford
In his opening day start, Overton fanned seven over seven frames while surrendering just two hits to help power No. 14 Oklahoma to a 10-4 victory over Hofstra on Friday. The junior, who was named a preseason All-American by both Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America and was recently selected to the 2013 Preseason Golden Spikes Watch List, retired 19 of the final 23 batters he faced in his season debut to improve his career record to 15-7 at OU.

Tanner Krietemeier, Oklahoma State, Jr., 1B, Castle Rock, Colo./Iowa Western CC
Krietemeier led Oklahoma State to a series win at No. 21 New Mexico on opening weekend. The switch-hitting junior was 6-for-11 (.545) against the Lobos with three RBI, three runs and a pair of walks. He was the only Cowboy to hit safely in all three games. The junior's clutch hitting was vital in OSU winning the first two games of the series. In Friday's opener, he came off the bench to pinch hit in the ninth inning with the game tied 2-2 and, on the first pitch he saw, delivered an RBI single to plate the go-ahead run.

On Saturday, Krietemeier was 2-for-6 with two RBI and two runs in OSU's 15-14 comeback win in 13 innings, a game that saw the Cowboys erase an eight-run deficit in the eighth and ninth frames. In the ninth, with OSU trailing 14-12 and down to its final out, Krietemeier fell behind in the count 0-2 but then came up clutch once again with a two-RBI single to tie the game. In Sunday's series finale, he was 3-for-4, collecting three of OSU's four hits in a losing effort.
