Team-By-Team Notes From Week Five In Big 12 Football

In the four games played in Week Five, there were 17 touchdowns from scrimmage – seven on runs, 10 on passes. Those 17 scoring plays averaged 20.8 yards in length.

Through five weeks, there have been 111 rushing touchdowns and average of 9.9 yards in distances. 115 passing touchdowns have averaged 29 yards per score.

Through four weeks, there have been 14 defensive/special team touchdowns - interception returns of 25, 32, 38, 41, 63, 58, 24 and 66 yards. Two fumble returns of 9 and 91 yards. Kickoff returns of 94, 100 and 45 yards. Punt return of 67 yards.

Baylor (3-0; did not play; vs. West Virginia Saturday)
The Bears will try to start 4-0 for the first time since opening 5-0 in 1991.

Iowa State (1-2; defeated Tulsa, 38-21; vs. Texas Thursday)
Junior running back Aaron Wimberly had career highs in carries (19) and yards (137). He became the third player in the Rhoads era with 200 all-purpose yards.

Jeff Woody had a career-high three rushing touchdowns and became the first Cyclone with three rushing TDs in a game since 2005.

Receiver Tad Ecby had career highs in receptions (six) and yards (59) while tight end E.J. Bibbs had career highs in catches (four) and yards (49).

Iowa State is 21-10 all-time on Thursdays, including a 10-2 mark in its last 12 games.

Iowa State  is 22-1 under Paul Rhoads when allowing fewer than 24 points.

Kansas (2-1; did not play; vs. Texas Tech Saturday)
The Jayhawks open Big 12 play against a team that it lost to in double overtime last season.

Kansas State (2-2, 0-1; did not play; at Oklahoma State Saturday)
The Wildcats haven't started 0-2 in Big 12 play since starting 0-3 in 2004.

Oklahoma (4-0, 1-0; defeated Notre Dame, 35-21; vs. TCU Saturday)
Firsts and bests: Receiver Lacoltan Bester caught is first touchdown pass, linebacker Corey Nelson had the first interception of his career (and TD return), receiver Sterling Shepard had a career-best 54 yard reception (for a TD) and quarterback Trevor Knight had a career-best 30-yard run.

Oklahoma is 2-8 all-time against Notre Dame, recording its first win against the Fighting Irish since a 40-0 win on Oct. 27, 1956. OU is the first current member of the Big 12 to defeat Notre Dame since Texas posted a 21-17 win in the Cotton Bowl (1/1/70).

Oklahoma has won nine straight games against opponents that it lost to in the previous season.

Through four games, Oklahoma is plus-four in turnover margin and is plus-42 in points off turnovers.

Oklahoma's only three-and-out series  came with six minutes left in the game and the Sooners up 35-21.

Oklahoma had nine first downs passing; Notre Dame had nine completions.

Notre Dame's 14-point loss to Oklahoma was the second-largest home loss by a ranked team this season; Nebraska lost by 20 at home to UCLA.

Oklahoma State (3-1, 0-1; lost West Virginia, 30-21; vs. Kansas State)
Tracy Moore caught his first touchdown reception of the year in the second quarter. It was the 13th of his career.

Tyler Patmon's second quarter interception was his first as a Cowboy. Including his years as a Kansas Jayhawk, it was the seventh of his career.

Oklahoma State's first touchdown drive lasted 1:30. The Cowboys have now scored on a drive of less than two minutes in 26 consecutive games and in 42 of the past 43 games.

Oklahoma State lost its first Big 12 road opener since 2007.

TCU (2-2, 0-1; defeated SMU, 48-17; at Oklahoma Saturday)
Chris Hackett had an interception for the third consecutive game. His three picks on the year surpass his total of two from last season. He now has five career interceptions.

Sam Carter recorded his second and third interceptions of the season and has seven picks in his career. Carter took his second pick of the contest 66 yards for his first career touchdown.

Jaden Oberkrom has made 56 consecutive extra points, the second-longest streak in school history. The record is 79 by Michael Reeder (1994-97).

Dating back to 2006, TCU has now won eight consecutive games following an open date.

TCU's 31 fourth-quarter points marked the highest total in the fourth quarter by an FBS team this season.

TCU had four interceptions and has totaled nine interceptions against SMU over the last two seasons.

Texas (2-2, 1-0; did not play; at TCU Thursday)
The Longhorns have a 9-1 record against Iowa State and have never lost in Ames (4-0).

Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0; did not play; at Kansas Saturday)
The Red Raiders play their first Big 12 road game when they visit Lawrence.

West Virginia (3-2, 1-1; defeated Oklahoma State, 30-21; at Baylor Saturday)
Kevin White's 17-yard touchdown reception was the first of his career and it was quarterback Clint Trickett's first as a Mountaineer.

Ishmael Banks 58-yard interception return for a touchdown was his first pick and first TD. It also was West Virginia's first defensive or special teams touchdown this season.

West Virginia's two-deep chart had 21 changes from the previous game.

West Virginia is 2-0 all-time in Morgantown against Oklahoma State. The other meeting was a 32-6 WVU win in 1928.
