Two players that combined for 82 points on Saturday - Iowa State senior Melvin Ejim and Kansas State freshman Marcus Foster - are the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week.  It is the second honor for both student-athletes this season.

PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Melvin Ejim, Iowa State, F, Sr., 6-6, 220, Toronto, Ontario/Brewster Academy [N.H.]
Ejim entered the week as the Big 12’s leading scorer and extended his advantage by averaging 35.0 points in wins over Oklahoma State and TCU.  The signature performance came on Saturday versus the Horned Frogs, as the senior forward scored a Big 12 single-game record 48 points to go along with a career-high 18 rebounds.  He finished 20-of-24 (.833) from the field, a conference record for field goals made, scoring 24 of ISU’s final 26 points.  Overall, Ejim set or tied 10 Big 12 single-game records in the contest, including the most combined points and rebounds in one game (64).  Earlier in the week, he scored 22 points with 13 rebounds as the Cyclones won in Stillwater for the first time since 1988.  Ejim is averaging 30.7 points and 15.7 rebounds in his last three outings and has scored in double digits in 24 straight games.

PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Marcus Foster, Kansas State, G, Fr., 6-2, 200, Wichita Falls, Texas/Hirschi
Foster scored a season-high 34 points in Kansas State’s only game of the week, a 74-57 win over No. 15 Texas. The freshman guard was 13-of-16 (.813) from the floor, including 5-of-8 (.625) from 3-point range, as K-State recorded its fourth win over a top 25 opponent this season.  The 13 field goals and five 3-pointers were both season-highs, while the scoring total was the most by a Wildcat freshman since 2008.  Only six freshmen in Big 12 history have scored more points than Foster in a single game.  He has scored in double figures in 18 outings in 2013-14, with three 20-point efforts in his last four contests.
