The first conference game of 2014 is on tap for week 2 as K-State travels to Iowa State. Seven teams compete against non-league opponents including Kansas who opens its season.

Eighty percent of Big 12 teams are ranked or receiving votes in both the coaches and Associated Press polls. 

The Big 12 showed it will be a league to be reckoned with as two of its unranked teams who were picked to finish fifth and eighth in the Conference went toe-to-toe

with the nation’s top-two ranked teams, losing by a combined 16 points. The Big 12’s other loss was to the three-time defending FCS national champion.

One-third (10) of the Big 12’s 30 non-conference games feature matchups against teams from the power conferences (ACC, Big Ten, SEC, Pac-12), no other peer conference plays a higher percentage.

In the six wins last weekend (Kansas did not play), Conference teams outscored opponents 276 to 88 for an average scoring margin of 31.3 points.

Since 2011, the league is 81-18 (.818) in regular season non-conference games. The Big 12 is 68-10 (.872) in non-league games in the month of September from 2011-13 combined.

Big 12 starting quarterbacks completed 202-of-315 passes (.641) for 2,835 yards and 16 touchdowns with seven interceptions in week 1.

Conference offenses averaged 449.1 total yards while defenses held opponents to 307.3 yards. Three opponents were held to under 150 total yards.

In five of nine games, opponents were held to 87-or-fewer rushing yards. 

Big 12 offenses averaged 78.6 plays a game while opponents averaged 61.3 plays. 

Conference squads converted on 13-of-16 (.813) fourth-down attempts with six teams converting 100 percent.

Big 12 teams scored on 43-of-50 (.860) trips inside the Red Zone with 34 touchdowns and nine field goals.
