Soccer Championship Tiebreaker

In case of ties between teams (for seeding in the Big 12 Championship) the following tiebreaker system will be used:

If two teams are tied:

  1. Head to head results between tied teams

  2. Goal differential from all eight Conference games using goals scored minus goals scored against.  GS-GA=Goal Differential.

  3. Goals scored in the eight Conference games combined.

  4. If two teams remain tied, the team with the fewest number of points by an accumulation of yellow and red cards throughout the Conference season would be the higher seeded team.  A team would accumulate one point for each yellow card and two points for each red card. If two teams remain tied, the higher seed would be chosen by coin flip by Conference personnel.  In the event all Conference games cannot be completed, steps (2) through (5) would be used, only including games against common Conference opponents.

If three or more teams are tied, steps (2) through (5) will be followed to determine the seeds of the tied teams.  If at any point the multiple-team tie is reduced to two teams, the two-team tiebreaking procedures will be applied, following steps (1) through (4).In the event all Conference games cannot be completed, steps (2) through (4) would be used, only including games against common Conference opponents.
