For the fifth consecutive year, the Oklahoma Sooners have won the Big 12 Gymnastics title. Oklahoma posted a Big 12 Championship record score of 198.050 to claim its ninth Big 12 title overall. The No. 1 nationally-ranked Sooners led through all four rotations, taking at least a tie for the top spot in all four events.

Denver, appearing in its first Big 12 Championship, came in second with a 196.725, followed by West Virginia (195.925) and Iowa State (195.350).

Oklahoma’s Chayse Capps grabbed the individual all-around title with a 39.600 score. Teammate Keeley Kmieciak turned in a 39.575 for second place, highlighted by a perfect 10.0 on the uneven bars (second 10.0 on bars in Big 12 Championship history). Denver’s Nina McGee rounded out the top three with a 39.525 overall.

Kmieciak’s perfect 10 on bars earned her the event title, and her and OU teammate AJ Jackson shared the title on vault, each posting a 9.925 score. Sooners Natalie Brown and Capps shared the balance beam title, both scoring 9.950. On floor, OU’s Haley Scaman and Denver’s Nina McGee shared top honors with 9.950s.

Following the meet, the conference announced its annual awards as determined by the league’s coaches in a pre-championship vote. OU’s Capps and DU’s McGee shared Big 12 Gymnast of the Year honors, while the Sooners’ McKenzie Wofford earned Event Specialist of the Year. West Virginia’s Kirah Koshinski was named Newcomer of the Year.

Capps and McGee each earned four Gymnast of the Week awards this season (most of any competitors). Wofford took home the most weekly event titles with six, and Koshinski tied with OU’s Nicole Lehrmann at five weekly Newcomer honors each.

OU’s K.J. Kindler was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year for the 10th time in her career and sixth time as head coach for the Sooners.

The teams will now await the NCAA Regional selections. The Women’s NCAA Championship will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center, in Fort Worth, Texas April 15-16.
