Title: Senior Associate Commissioner - Communications
Bob Burda joined the Big 12 Conference staff in 2004 as the Assistant Commissioner for Communications and was promoted to Associate Commissioner in 2010. Burda currently serves as Senior Associate Commissioner for Communications.
In addition to overseeing the communications operation, Burda coordinates brand management, serves as the Conference’s wrestling liaison and advises on public and media relations strategy. His duties also touch the areas of television and marketing. He is the Conference office staff liaison for planning all Big 12 Athletics Directors’ in-person meetings and conference calls.
Burda was the point person for the development of the Conference’s brand standards and logo launch. During the Big 12’s two-year stint as coordinating conference for the Bowl Championship Series (BCS), Burda served as the media coordinator for the BCS.
Prior to his arrival at the Big 12, Burda was an Assistant Commissioner for Communications at the Mountain West Conference in Colorado Springs from 2000 to 2004. At the MWC, he oversaw all communications’ activities along with serving as the sport liaison for baseball and men’s tennis, and was active within the Conference’s governance structure.
A 1985 Oakland University graduate with a Master’s in marketing communications from Florida State in 1991, Burda served on the staffs at the University of Miami (Fla.) from 1996 to 2000, and at Florida State from 1991 to 1996.
Burda was associated with national football and baseball championship programs at both Miami and FSU. He joined the staff at Miami as the Sports Information Director working with the Hurricanes’ football program, before moving on to become an Assistant Athletic Director where he coordinated the department’s media partnerships.
At FSU he worked in the sports information department serving as the primary media contact for various sports in the highly-competitive Seminoles’ program after gaining valuable experience as a graduate assistant in sports marketing from 1989 to 1991.
