Big 12 WBB Championship: Semifinal Matchups Set

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1 Baylor, No. 2 Texas, No. 5 TCU and No. 6 West Virginia all advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship.

In session two, No. 5 TCU  advanced to the semifinals for the first time since joining the Big 12 with a 90-83 win over No. 5 Oklahoma. Top-seeded Baylor collected an 83-54 victory over No. 8 K-State in the second game to advance to the semis.

In the evening session, No. 2 Texas collected an 81-69 victory over No. 7 Iowa State. No. 6 West Virginia knocked off No. 3 Oklahoma State with a 69-60 victory to advance to the semifinals as six-seed for a second consecutive year.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Sixth Man of the Year Amy Okonkwo scored 21 points and Amber Ramirez added 19, leading the parade to the foul line in the closing minutes as fifth-seeded TCU held off No. 4 Oklahoma 90-83 in the quarterfinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Saturday.

Kianna Ray had 14 points and Oklahoma City native Dakota Vann 13 for the Horned Frogs (19-11), who play the winner of Kanas State-Baylor in the first semifinal on Sunday.

TCU led by 21 late in the second quarter, courtesy of hitting 9 of 15 3-point attempts in the first half, but the Sooners charged back with a 15-0 run in the third quarter to get within one. A 3-pointer from Maddie Manning had the Sooners within 71-67 with 4:42 to play but seven straight misses followed.

The Horned Frogs made 15 of 16 free throws in the final two minutes with Ramirez going 4 of 5 in the last minute.

Oklahoma shot 32 percent and TCU 61 percent in the first half, which ended 50-35.

Manning had 24 points and Shaina Pellington 22, each netting 16 in the second half, for the Sooners (16-14).

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Kalani Brown scored 26 points to help No. 3 Baylor beat Kansas State 83-54 on Saturday in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship quarterfinals.

Brown, a 6-foot-7 center who was named Big 12 Player of the Year earlier in the week, made 9 of 12 shots and had 13 rebounds.

Dekeiya Cohen scored 19 points, and Juicy Landrum added 14 for the Lady Bears (29-1). They shot 50.8 percent from the floor to claim their 26th straight win.

Kayla Goth scored 24 points, and Peyton Williams added 10 for Kansas State (16-15), which had won its previous three games.

Baylor advanced to play TCU on Sunday. TCU beat Oklahoma 90-83 in the first quarterfinal on Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Ariel Atkins scored 25 points and No. 7 Texas beat Iowa State 81-69 on Saturday in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship quarterfinal.

Atkins, an All-Big 12 pick, made 10 of 15 field goals and 5 of 6 3-pointers. Jatarie White had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Brooke McCarty added 12 points and seven assists to help the Longhorns (25-5) advanced to play the Oklahoma State-West Virginia winner.

Emily Durr and Bridget Carleton each scored 25 points for the Cyclones. They lost to Texas for the third time this season.

Texas led 20-17 after the first quarter and started pulling away in the second. The Longhorns held Iowa State to 10 points in the period on 3-for-16 shooting and expanded their lead to 42-27.

Atkins scored 12 points and White had 10 in the first half for the Longhorns, who shot 65.5 percent from the field before the break. White, a 6-foot-4 junior, created problems by making her mid-range shots and made 5 of 6 shots overall in the first half. Carleton scored 14 points in the first half for Iowa State, but her teammates shot 5 for 20.

Durr's layup midway through the third quarter cut Texas' lead to eight, but McCarty came back with a 3-pointer at the other end. The Longhorns led 56-47 heading into the fourth quarter, and Iowa State never really threatened the rest of the way.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Naomi Davenport had 21 points and nine rebounds on Saturday night and Katrina Pardee scored 15 with eight boards and four steals to help West Virginia beat Oklahoma State 69-60 in the quarterfinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship.

No. 6 seed West Virginia (21-10) with play second-seeded and No. 7 Texas in the semifinals Sunday. The Longhorns won both regular-season matchups by an average of 19.5 points.

Pardee and Davenport scored five points apiece during a 15-4 opening run and the Mountaineers never trailed. Davenport made two free throws to make it 21-11 at the end of the first quarter and her jumper gave West Virginia a 15-point lead midway through the second before going into the break with a 42-30 advantage. Braxtin Miller and Loryn Goodwin hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull No. 3 seed Oklahoma State within seven with four minutes left in the third quarter, but the Cowgirls would get no closer.

Kaylee Jensen led Oklahoma State (20-10) with 20 points and nine rebounds. Goodwin added 15 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals.

West Virginia snapped a three-game skid against the Cowgirls, including a 79-69 home loss on Feb. 24.
