Sooners Earn Lucky Number Seven

The No. 1 nationally ranked Oklahoma Sooners earned the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship title for the seventh consecutive year.

Oklahoma recorded 197.775 points followed by No. 12 Denver in second with 197.075 points. In a close battle for third, No. 26 Iowa State edged out No. 25 West Virginia by just .025 points.

The Sooners and Pioneers took home at least a share of three of four event titles while the Cyclones picked up a share of the floor title. A total of seven scores earned marks of 9.950 or higher, including five on the uneven bars.

Maggie Nichols (OU) was honored as the Big 12 Gymnastics All-Around Champion following a 39.675 point performance, marking the second-most all-around points in Big 12 Championship history and the most since 2003.

Additionally, the All-Big 12 individual honors were announced. Nichols received Big 12 Gymnast of the Year, while Stefani Catour (Oklahoma) earned Event Specialist of the Year. Lynnzee Brown (Denver) and Anastasia Webb (Oklahoma) were honored as Newcomers of the Year while Oklahoma head coach KJ Kindler recorded her 12th overall Coach of the Year honor and the ninth since joining the Sooner staff.
