Texas freshman Kaitlyn Papp has been named the 2018 Big 12 Women’s Golf Player of the Year, as well as Freshman of the Year. The Longhorns swept the individual yearly awards, as head coach Ryan Murphy was named Coach of the Year.
Texas has won back-to-back Big 12 Championships under Murphy, and will begin postseason play as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Austin Regional.
Papp has three individual tournament wins this season and finished in a fourth-place tie at the Big 12 Championship. She was named Big 12 Golfer of the Month in March following three top-10 finishes, including her individual title at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
Papp is one of three Longhorns named to the 2018 Women’s Golf All-Big 12 Team, along with teammates Emilee Hoffman and Sophia Schubert. Iowa State’s Celia Barquin Arozamena, the 2018 Big 12 individual champion, and Chayanit Wangmahaporn represent the Cyclones on All-Big 12 Team. Connie Jaffrey from Kansas State, Julienne Soo and Hannah Wood from Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State’s Emma Broze and Chih-Min Chen round out the list of honorees.
Individual awards are voted on by the head coaches. The All-Big 12 Team is determined by an average of Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin national rankings.
