TCU's Green Tabbed National Pitcher of the Week
May 08, 2018

TCU sophomore left-handed pitcher Haylen Green has been named the National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Tuesday.

Green was brilliant in his second start of the season. The Lufkin, Texas native  faced just two batters over the minimum, needed just 90 pitches to fire his first career complete game. He retired the first 14 batters he faced in the game and allowed just three total base runners. Green finished the afternoon with a career-high 11 strikeouts.

The first Lamar batter to reach did so on a two-out error in the fifth. Green’s first hitter to reach safely didn’t come until a lead-off walk in the seventh. A lead-off single by Chad McKinney in the ninth broke up the no-hitter, but he was erased on a double play ball.

He became only the fourth pitcher in school history to toss a solo nine inning one-hitter. It was the 19th one-hitter in school history.

The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Green joins Jon Littell (Oklahoma State) and Josh Jung (Texas Tech) as NCBWA weekly national honorees this season.
