The 2018 men’s and women’s All-Big 12 tennis awards are announced, headlined by women’s Player of the Year Bianca Turati (Texas) and men’s Player of the Year Alex Bakshi (Oklahoma).
Texas led the individual awards on the women’s side, with Turati joined by Howard Joffe as Coach of the Year. Kansas’ Despoina Vogasari earned Newcomer of the Year status while K-State’s Maria Linares was named Freshman of the Year.
On the men’s side, Oklahoma produced three individual All-Big 12 winners, with Bakshi also earning Newcomer of the Year status in addition to Player of the Year. He is joined by teammate and Freshman of the Year Jake van Emburgh. Texas’ Michael Center recorded Coach of the Year.
All six men’s team’s received All-Big 12 nods while 80 percent of the women’s programs were recognized.
Bakshi’s dual individual honors marks the third time in Big 12 history and first time since 2003 a men’s player has recorded Player and Newcomer of the Year honors.
Linares and Joffe notch the second program honor for their respective teams for Freshman and Coach of the Year awards.
