Iowa State Athlete of the Year Nominees

2017-18 Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each weekday through July 20. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices from July 20-23 on Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today’s featured candidates are Iowa State’s Celia Barquin Arozamena and Joel Lanning.

^ 2018 Big 12 Golf Individual Champion
^ First Cyclone Big 12 champion and only the second Cyclone to win medalist honors at a conference championship
^ One of only two Cyclones to make the All-Big 12 Team three times (2015, 2016 and 2018)
^ Led the Cyclones in stroke average (73.21), birdies (78) and top-10 finishes (5)
^ Ended season ranked No. 69 nationally and qualified for the NCAA Regional four times

Joel Lanning; Football

^ First-Team All-American (FWAA, Phil Steele)
^ Second-Team All-American (Sports Illustrated)
^ Second-Team All-Big 12
^ Runner-up for the Paul Hornung Award and Lombardi Award
^ Ranked third in the Big 12 and 37th nationally with 8.8 tackles per game
