The United Soccer Coaches, formally known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), announced its national preseason Top 25 Tuesday. West Virginia, Baylor and Texas represented the Big 12 in the poll.
The Mountaineers led the way with the No. 9 spot, making it the third consecutive season in which WVU placed in the preseason top-10. The five-time Big 12 champion has 16 letterwinners returning this season, including six starters.
Baylor checks in at No. 15 after one of the most successful postseason run in program history. The Bears captured the 2017 postseason Big 12 Championship in Kansas City and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history last year.
Texas is ranked No.17 after a historical season that included equaling the school single-season record with 11 shutouts and tying the fifth-most wins in one campaign (14).
The 2018 soccer season kicks off Thursday, August 16, with three Big 12 teams in action. The remaining seven programs will open the season on Friday, August 17.
