After leading No. 1 Kansas to a 92-87 season-opening win over No. 10 Michigan State, Dedric Lawson and Quentin Grimes were named the first Big 12 men’s basketball weekly award winners.

Lawson earned Big 12 Player of the Week after he recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds in his first appearance as a Jayhawk. The junior forward also led Kansas with six assists. It was Lawson's 37th career double-double as he recorded 36 in his first two seasons at Memphis before transferring to KU following the 2016-17 season.

In his college debut, Grimes led all scorers with 21 points against MSU to claim Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. The freshman guard was 7-for-14 from the field, including 6-for-10 from 3-point range and also had four assists with one turnover in the victory.
