Lawson and Hayes Receive Men's Hoops Awards

Dedric Lawson (Kansas) and Jaxson Hayes (Texas) picked up their second Big 12 men’s basketball weekly honors as Lawson claimed player of the week while Hayes earned the top newcomer.

Lawson was selected the Most Valuable Player of the NIT Season Tip-Off after posting two double-doubles in leading Kansas to the event title. He averaged 25 points and 12.5 rebounds in wins over Marquette and No. 5 Tennessee. In the title game against the Volunteers, the junior forward scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half and overtime.

 

Hayes averaged 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds to earn recognition on the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational All-Tournament Team. In an upset over No. 7 North Carolina, he scored 15 points while connecting on all five of his field goal attempts and added nine rebounds. The freshman forward has reached double-figure scoring in 5-of-6 games and leads the team in blocks.
