The third session of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship features No. 10-seed Kansas versus No. 2-seed Iowa State and No. 3-seed Texas against No. 6-seed Kansas.

The Cyclones advanced with a 75-58 win over the Jayhawks and will face the winner game six.

Cyclones Advance to Semis for First Time Since 2013

OKLAHOMA CITY—  No. 2-seed Iowa State knocked off No. 10-seed Kansas in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinal round for the first time since 2013.

ISU face the winner of the final quarterfinal matchup between No.3 Texas and No.6 TCU on Sunday, March 10th at 4:30 pm.

Iowa State (24-7) knocked down 45.6 percent (26-of-57) of its shots. Big 12 Player of the Year Bridget Carleton paced the Cyclones with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Cyclones went on a 7-2 run in the first four minutes of the opening period, led by forward Madison Wise before KU (13-18) fought back to take a 12-11 lead at the end of the period.

Wise’s efficient play helped lead the Cyclones to the victory after she finished the game (6-of-8) from the field with 15 points. Forward Kristin Scott also finished the game with 15 points and added 6 rebounds in 29 minutes of play.

The Cyclones led the Jayhawks 57-33 at the end of the third, before Kansas would go on a 14-0 run two minutes into the fourth bringing them within 12 points of the Cyclones.

Kansas guards Christalah Lyons, Aniyah Thomas, and Kylee Kopatich all finished in double figures for the Jayhawks, as Lyons led all Kansas scorers with 15 points.

OKLAHOMA CITY— No. 3-seed Texas edged out No. 6-seed TCU, 66-64, in a back-and-forth battle in the quarterfinal round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship quarterfinals at Chesapeake Energy Arena

The Longhorns (23-8) will face the No. 2-seed Iowa State Cyclones in the semifinals on Sunday, March 10, at 2 p.m. CT.

There were 17 lead changes and 11 ties between the two teams during Saturday evening’s contest. The Longhorns went into the half leading 30 to 28.

TCU (20-10) held the lead at the 1:53 mark in the fourth period until Sutton hit a clutch jump shot followed by a layup, which helped the Longhorns pull out the victory. The Horned Frogs had an opportunity to tie or win the game, but were unable to get a shot off before time expired. 

Dani Williams led all Longhorn scorers with 20 points, including shooting 2-of-5 from the three-point line. Forward Sug Sutton neared a double-double finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds. Center Jatarie White also made big contributions for the Longhorns with 14 points and nine boards.

Horned Frogs forward Amy Okonkwo had a big-time performance finishing with a double-double scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds while leading all TCU scorers.

Junior guard Kianna Ray finished with 12 points on the night going 4-of-9 from three-point range, hitting multiple three-pointers to either take the lead or tie the game.
