Duke Kicinski (Texas Tech) and Hayley Jackson (West Virginia) were honored with the outdoor track & field athlete of the week honors, the first of the 2019 campaign.
The Men’s Athlete of the Week honoree captured gold in the discus throw over the weekend at the ACU Wes Kittley Invitational. Kicinski’s first-place toss was recorded at 207’-10” (63.34m) for the No. 1 throw in the nation this outdoor season. His heave landed inches away from breaking the school record and mark's the farthest discus throw since 2017.
Jackson earned her first Women’s Athlete of the Week honors after a come-from-behind victory in the 1,500-meter race with a late kick to win first last week. Her time of 4:23.15 placed her atop the national leaderboard in the event following the first week of outdoor competition.
This week’s award mark’s the first all-time for both student-athletes.
