The Big 12 has added Fresno State as an affiliate member in the sport of equestrian to give the Conference a four-team field. The new addition will join Baylor, Oklahoma State and TCU in future postseason competition.
“We are pleased to add Fresno State as an equestrian affiliate member,” said Senior Associate Commissioner of Championships Dayna Scherf. “The Bulldogs bring a historically successful program that will enhance Big 12 competition. We look forward to welcoming the Bulldogs’ coaches, student-athletes and fans to the league.”
The affiliate membership is effective immediately for the 2019-20 academic year. Fresno State will join the three other Big 12 equestrian members in a regular-season scheduling alliance. The Big 12 Conference Equestrian Championship will return to a playoff style format in which all four teams will compete in semifinal matches for a chance to compete in a championship draw for the Conference title.
"We are excited for our equestrian program to join the Big 12 Conference,” said Fresno State Director of Athletics Terry Tumey. “Aligning ourselves with some of the best equestrian teams in the nation further advances our mission to provide a championship experience for all of our student-athletes and in this case specifically the dedicated young women who comprise our program."
In addition to equestrian, the Big 12 also includes affiliate members in the sports of gymnastics, rowing and wrestling.
