Oklahoma softball utility player Grace Green and Texas pitcher Shealyn O'Leary are two of 10 finalists for the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year, the NFCA announced.
Green, who was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, led the league in home runs (9), RBIs (27), total bases (53) and slugging percentage (1.000) during conference games this year. She also paced all conference freshmen in batting average (.415), hits (22), runs scored (17), on-base percentage (.476) and slugging (1.000) in league contests.
A 2019 All-Big 12 Conference Second Team selection, O'Leary leads NCAA Division I in ERA (0.48) to go along with a 13-1 overall record, nine complete games, four solo shutouts and 58 strikeouts over 87 innings of work. She also became the first UT pitcher to start 11-0 since Blaire Luna back in 2013 and registered a streak of 42.1 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
The top three finalists will be selected and released on May 21. The Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year trophy will be presented during a live ceremony at the annual Women's College World Series banquet in Oklahoma City, Okla., on May 28.
