Day One Complete at Big 12 Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY - Five out of the six games on pool play day at the 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship have been completed.

Pool B has completed all three games with No. 2 Oklahoma State (2-0) placing first, No. 5 Iowa State (1-1) finishing in second and No. 3 Texas (0-2) finishing in third place. OSU has clinched a spot in Saturday’s Big 12 Championship game and will play the winner of Pool A.

Game 6 between Oklahoma and Kansas has been postponed due to rain in the top of the fourth inning with OU up 5-0. The game will conclude tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT. Games 7 and 8, along with the championship game, will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of each game.

A limited number of tickets remain for Saturday, May 11th. They may be purchased on-site at the ticket office beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT while supplies last. The ticket is good for all games on May 11th. 

Game 1: No. 2 Oklahoma State 6, No. 3 Texas 2

A six-run spurt in the bottom of the sixth propelled No. 2-seed Oklahoma State to a 6-2 come-from-behind win over No. 3 Texas in the opening game of the 2019 Phillip 66 Softball Championship. Rylee Bayless, Chyenne Factor, Sydney Springfield, Kiley Naomi and Chelsea Alexander helped drive in the Pokes’ six runs. Texas opened with a two-run lead in the top of the fourth inning with the help of Kaitlyn Washington’s two-run blast to right center field. Samant Show (17-7) surrendered just two runs on four hits and struck out three in the complete game.

Game 2: No. 4 Texas Tech 7, No. 6 Kansas 3

No. 4-seed Texas Tech won 7-3 against No. 6-seed Kansas in the second game of the championship. The Red Raiders broke through in the bottom of the third scoring four runs and added three more in the fourth. KU didn’t back down as the Jayhawks were able to get on the board in the top of the seventh inning after Morgyn Wynne’s solo home run and Madison Sykes hit over right field to cut the lead down to four. Karli Hamilton, the leadoff hitter for the Red Raiders, finished the game with a 2-for-3 performance, two hits, two runs scored, a double and an RBI. Tech’s Erin Edmoundson improved to 19-3 after striking out four and allowing three runs, all earned, on three hits in 7.0 innings pitched.

Game 3: No. 1 Oklahoma 8, No. 4 Texas Tech 0 (6 Inn.)

No. 1-seed Oklahoma took down No. 4 Texas Tech, 8-0, for a six-inning victory in game three of the Championship. OU extends its winning streak to 39 games, marking the longest streak in NCAA Division I history over the span of one season. Pitcher Giselle Juarez had another stellar game striking out 11 batters to improve to 22-0 on the season. The junior has now registered 10+ strikeouts in her last six starts.

Game 4: No. 5 Iowa State 2, No. 3  Texas 0

No. 5 seed Iowa State upset the third-seeded Texas Longhorns by a score of 2-0 after a two-run home run by sophomore Talyn Lewis in the top of the fourth inning. ISU’s Emma Hylen (15-9) pitched all seven innings and allowed zero runs off of five hits. This is the Cyclones’ first Big 12 Championship win since 2008.

No. 3 Oklahoma State rolled passed No. 5 Iowa State breaking several records after a 17-2 win in five innings. The 17 runs against ISU were the most in OSU postseason history. The Cowgirls belted a program-record of five home runs in the second inning, two by Raquel Dominquez, a three-run shot by Samantha Show, Michaela Richbourg and a two-run shot by Kiley Naomi. OSU also posted the largest run margin (17) in program history. 

Game 6: No. 1 Oklahoma 5, Kansas 0 (Game suspended due to rain)

Game 6 between Oklahoma and Kansas has been postponed due to rain in the top of the fourth inning with OU up 5-0. The game will conclude tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT.
