Norman, Oklahoma - The women’s team of the Texas Longhorns and the men’s program of the Texas Tech Red Raiders were crowned 2019 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field champions.
UT recorded the second-most points by any team in Big 12 championship history (172), only behind a 2003 record 188 points also set by Texas, on its way to an 11th team title. TTU earned its second team title in as many years and its fourth overall.
The high-point scorer for the women, Teahna Daniels (Texas), registered 22.50 points, with first-place finishes in the 100-meter (11.10) and the 200-meter (22.71 [Tie-break 22.703]). Her 100-meter win was her third consecutive title in the event.
On the men’s side, David Too (Iowa State) and Cordell Tinch (Kansas) shared the high point scorer of the championship award with 18 total points. Tinch ran home with a gold in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Texas Tech 4x100-meter relay team garnered a first-place finish (38.83) on the way to breaking the Big 12 outdoor record by 0.02 seconds. Red Raider Divine Oduduru recorded the first sub-10 second 100-meter dash time in Conference championship history at 9.99.
Norman Grimes, also of Texas Tech, won back-to-back titles in the 400-meter hurdles on his way to recording an NCAA leading time this outdoor season of 49.11.
Wil London (Baylor) won his fourth straight 400-meter dash, making him the second Big 12 student-athlete to achieve that feat in this event and the fifth student-athlete amongst all individual event winners to win four consecutive titles in Big 12 history.
For the women, Cailie Logue won both the 5K (Sunday, 16:12.81) and the 10K (Saturday, 33:36.00) making her the 10th runner in Big 12 outdoor history to win both races at the same competition.
Zarriea Willis (Texas Tech), the 2019 Indoor Track & Field High Jump National Champion, jumped for gold for the second consecutive year with a leap of 6-00.00/1.83m.
Sinclaire Johnson (Oklahoma State) earned her first 800-meter run gold with a 2:04.79 time. A Cowgirl has won this event six of the last nine years.
Next up for the Big 12 programs is a trip to their respective NCAA Preliminary Rounds in Sacramento, California (West Region) and Jacksonville, Florida (East Region), May 23-25.
The University of Texas will then host the 2019 Division I Track & Field National Championships in Austin, Texas, from June 5-8.
