Two hundred and twenty-five Big 12 Track & Field student-athletes are set to compete at the 2019 NCAA Regional Preliminaries. The Big 12 will be represented in all 40 events of competition (20 for the men and 20 for the women) as 10 men’s relays teams and 13 women’s relay teams are set to battle as well.
Of the 225 individuals listed to compete in their respective regional preliminaries, a total of 53 (34 men, 19 women) are seeded top-five in the nation. On the men’s side, Baylor’s Wil London (400m), Kansas’ Gleb Dudarev (Hammer Throw), Oklahoma State’s Ryan Smeeton (3000m Steeplechase), TCU’s Chengetayi Mapaya (Triple Jump) and Texas Tech’s Divine Oduduru (100m, 200m) and Eric Kicinski (Discus Throw) all earned No. 1 seeds.
K-State’s Ranae McKenzie garnered a No. 1 seed in the Women’s 400m hurdles.
Six of the top seven seeded men’s triple jumpers, eight of the top 11, hail from the Big 12. This mark is the most amongst all conferences in the event. The same story can be told for the women’s side. Five of the top seven competing in the women’s triple jump represent the league.
The NCAA Preliminary Rounds are set to take place in Sacramento, California (West Region) and Jacksonville, Florida (East Region), May 23-25.
The University of Texas will then host the 2019 Division I Track & Field National Championships in Austin, Texas, from June 5-8.
