Six Big 12 Players Named to USA Women's Basketball National Teams

Five Big 12 women’s basketball student-athletes were named to the 2019 Pan American Games Team and one to the USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Cup Team. Brittany Brewer (Texas Tech), Peyton Williams (Kansas State), Celeste Taylor (Texas), Queen Egbo (Baylor), NaLyssa Smith (Baylor) and Ashley Joens (Iowa State) were named to the teams.

Brewer and Williams will represent Team USA as they both earned spots on the Pan American Games Team. Taylor, Egbo, Smith were three of 12 players selected to the United States team for the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. Joens was named as an alternate.

The 12-member Pan American Games Team will return to Colorado Springs for training camp July 23-Aug. 5. They will then travel to Lima, Peru, to participate in the 2019 Pan American Games Aug. 6-10. The team was selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee. All Pan American Games roster nominations are pending approval of the United States Olympic Committee.

The 12-woman roster will move on to compete at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. 31 players attended the trials for the team in Colorado Springs, Colo. at the Olympic Training Center and Sunday the team was announced. The selections were made by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee, chaired by George Washington University head coach Jennifer Rizzotti. The team will be coached by Louisville head coach Jeff Walz.
