Rybakov's Season Capped in National Semis
May 23, 2019

Orlando, Fla. - No. 3-ranked Alex Rybakov of TCU became the second student-athlete in Horned Frog history to advance to the semifinal round of the NCAA Tennis Championship in singles play in Orlando, Florida.

The senior is the first Big 12 student-athlete to earn a spot in a singles semifinal match since fellow Horned Frog Cameron Norrie advanced to the round of four in 2016.

On the women’s side, Felicity Maltby of Texas Tech concluded her historical run at the NCAA Tennis Championship in the quarterfinal round of the competition. Maltby is the first TTU student-athlete to make it to the round of eight.

In doubles competition, the No. 1-seeded duo of Jimmy Bendeck/Sven Lah ended their postseason run with a quarterfinal appearance. This marks the second time in the last three years that a Big 12 tandem has played in a quarterfinal round.

Rybakov dropped his semifinal match to No. 1 Nuno Borges (Mississippi State) 7-5, 6-3.
