Oklahoma and Oklahoma State were two of the 11 softball programs honored by the NFCA as 2019 Division I Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year.
Oklahoma’s coaching staff, led by head coach Patty Gasso, is the Central region staff of the year. Gasso and her staff led the Sooners, the national runner-up, to their eighth trip to the Women’s College World Series in the last nine years. The team also captured its eighth consecutive Big 12 regular season championship and recorded an NCAA Division I record of winning 41 straight games.
Oklahoma State is the Midwest region coaching staff of the year. Head coach Kenny Gajewski and his staff earned the Cowgirls’ first WCWS berth since 2011 and eighth in program history. OSU had the most victories since the 1994 squad won 46 and finished sixth in the final national rankings, which is the highest ranking for the team since 1998.
OU and OSU are eligible for the NFCA’s Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year award, which will be announced on June 26.
