Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt announced two changes to the men’s and women’s tennis coaching staffs on Friday. Current women’s tennis head coach Todd Petty was promoted to Director of Tennis and will oversee both the men’s and women’s tennis programs, while former assistant coach Daniel Whitehead will take over as head coach of the men’s team.
Petty will enter his 12th season as head coach of the women’s club, where he has racked up a 208-91 career record and three Big 12 regular season championships. In his tenure, he has made four NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances and two Elite Eights.
Whitehead will begin his third year with the Red Raiders, his first as head coach, after previously coaching both the men’s and women’s teams at Concordia University from 2015-2017. Whitehead played his collegiate career at Texas, where he was a captain for two seasons.
Both the Red Raiders men’s and women’s tennis programs will begin the 2019-20 season in January.
