A total of 178 players from Big 12 schools are currently on active rosters, practice squads or the injured reserve for 32 NFL teams at the start of the 2019 season.
Oklahoma leads the way with 36 players on rosters, followed by 25 from Texas and 21 from West Virginia.
Texas Tech alum Patrick Mahomes is the NFL’s reigning Most Valuable Player after leading the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and an appearance in Super Bowl LIII. The Big 12 has four returning All-Pro selections from a year ago including Mahomes, P Michael Dickson (Seattle/Texas), S Adrian Phillips (Los Angeles Chargers/Texas) and K Justin Tucker (Baltimore Ravens/Texas).
The 2019 NFL season opens Thursday evening with Green Bay at Chicago, featuring 10 Big 12 alums: G Blake Blackmar (Chicago/Baylor), LB Chris Bolton (Green Bay/Oklahoma), Nick Kwiatkoski (Chicago/West Virginia), WR Allen Lazard (Green Bay/Iowa State), T Cornelius Lucas III (Chicago/K-State), RB David Montgomery (Chicago/Iowa State), CB Duke Shelley (Chicago/K-State), LB Ty Summers (Green Bay/TCU), G Lane Taylor (Green Bay, Oklahoma State) and C Corey Whitehair (Chicago/K-State).
