Day 4 Quotes

Head coach Matt Knoll

On the match:
“It was a great match. I’m really proud of Jordan (Rux) coming through with all the pressure on him. It’s a special place to be as a tennis player -- to be on the last match in a big situation. Glad that he was able to come through and hold it together.

“The Big 12’s a tough conference. We feel fortunate to be in there with all the great teams in there.”

Sophomore Jordan Rux
On being the clinching match for the second straight season at the Big 12 Championship:
“I don’t know what it’s about; it’s just a fluke really. To be in that position, it’s what you train for and it’s what, I think, every player wants to be in. To be able to come out on top two times, it’s really special.”

“It was extremely tough mentally. Dealing with the wind out here was a huge factor.  Obviously, (Texas’ Ed Corrie) is a good player. It was a little tougher (match) than I thought it was going to be.  I was a little frustrated at the start but I think I kept my composure pretty well. “

Head coach Michael Center

On the match:
“It was a tough match. Conditions were tough. I thought we had a good chance in doubles, but just didn’t get that point.  I was really proud of the way the guys fought back and put ourselves in position to win. We just came up a little short."

Head coach Joey Scrivano

On the match:
“Anytime you play in a wind tunnel, it makes things interesting. I’m proud of the way we played today. Texas really played tough.  They competed very, very hard and handle the wind well. Both teams played a good match. Thankfully, we came out on top.”

On future goals:
“The ultimate goal is to win the national championship. That’s what we want to do -- win the national championship. We don’t take these victories for granted but we have some bigger goals ahead of us. Now, its just some fine tuning and making last-minute preparations. We’re excited the NCAAs are going to be in Texas, at College Station.”

Junior Lenka Broosova
On the match:
“I think the conditions were really hard. We knew it was going to be like this today. We knew Texas was going to come out and fight really hard. I think they played great, especially in doubles. I think it was just a matter of who wants to fight more, who worked harder before this.  It was not just our performance today; it was all the hard work we had put in since January. I’m proud of my team.”

Head coach Patty Fendick-McCain

On the match:
“It was tough conditions, winds up to 28 miles per hour. I was proud of how our girls fought from start to finish.”
