The Big 12 Conference had five squads chosen for the 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship Regionals. Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 7-9 to determine the championships field.
Big 12 Champions Oklahoma State earned the automatic bid and secured the No. 2 seed in the Central Region being held at the Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio. It marks the 17th consective year the Cowgirls have made a postseason appearance. In addition to OSU, playing in the West Region held at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. will be Texas A&M (13th-seed), Colorado (16), Texas (17) and Baylor (18).
Receiving an individual bid to Columbus will be Oklahoma’s Kendall Dye, who tied for first place at the Big 12 Championship after shooting 225 (+6) for the event. Junior Julia Potter (Missouri) was also chosen to compete individually, as she will represent the league in the East Region at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
Of the 324 participants selected,126 will advance to the championships finals with eight teams and two individuals advancing from each regional. NCAA finals will be held May 19-22 at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., and will be hosted by Georgetown.
