Longhorns Outscore Huskers In Quarterfinals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Game five saw No.4 Texas against No. 5 Nebraska. Both teams jumped into scoring position early as Nebraska scored two runs off four hits. Texas answered as they tabbed four runs off of three hits and one Husker error. Both teams went three-and-out in second, and were scoreless in the third.

In the fourth with bases loaded and two outs, Heidi Foland scored the Huskers third run after UT walked Amanda Duran, putting the score at 3-4 in favor of Texas. The Longhorns’ Amy Hooks immediately answered for her team as she hit a homerun over the centerfield wall on the first pitch. This sparked a 5-0 run by Texas in the next two innnings, as UT scored five runs off of five hits to go up 10-3. With two outs, Nebraska made an attempt to rally in the bottom of the seventh as both Julie Brechtel and Foland hit back-to-back homeruns. NU’s was stalled short as Jamie Gay grounded out to end the game.

Nebraska closes their regular season with a 34-17 mark, 33-18 in Big 12 Championship play. No. 4 Texas (38-17) will take on No. 1 Oklahoma in the second semi-final game of the evening beginning at 7:30 p.m.
