Weeden, Hagg, Brown and Powell Named Big 12 Football Players of the Week
September 20, 2010

Brandon Weeden (Oklahoma State), Eric Hagg (Nebraska), Curtis Brown (Texas) and William Powell (Kansas State) have been chosen Big 12 Conference Football Players of the Week, as selected by a media panel. All four picked up their first career honor.

Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State, QB, Jr, Edmond, Okla.
Brandon Weeden passed for 409 yards and six touchdowns in Oklahoma State's 65-28 win over Tulsa. He hit 23-of-32 passes with no interceptions. The junior led OSU to points on each of his possessions and became the first Cowboy quarterback to pass for 300 yards in a first half when he threw for 328 yards and five scores in the first two quarters. Weeden's night ended after the first possession of the second half when he found Justin Blackmon for an 81-yard touchdown pass as OSU extended its lead to 48-7.

Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Eric Hagg, Nebraska, DB, Sr, Glendale, Ariz.
Eric Hagg intercepted Jake Locker's first pass of the day and returned it 11 yards to set up Nebraska's first touchdown. Two plays later the Huskers scored to take a 7-0 lead. He also had an unassisted tackle and two pass breakups as Locker completed just 4-of-20 passes on the day.

Curtis Brown, Texas, CB, Sr, Gilmer, Texas
With the game tied at 14 and Texas Tech driving inside the Longhorns' 20-yard line, Curtis Brown intercepted a pass and returned it 74 yards to the Texas Tech 12-yard line. The Horns wound up kicking a field goal to take a 17-14 lead and went on to a 24-14 victory. Brown had two tackles, the interception and a pass breakup on the day. He also returned three punts for 35 yards. The Longhorns held Texas Tech to 144 yards of offense, the fewest for the Red Raiders in a game since 1997 (127 vs. Nebraska). Texas' defense, which posted a second half shutout, forced a three and out or a turnover on nine of 13 Tech drives.

Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week
William Powell, Kansas State, KR, Sr, Duncanville, Texas
Former walk-on running back/kick returner William Powell averaged 29 yards on four kick returns in last week's win over Iowa State.  He had a 45-yarder that set up a touchdown drive that gave the Wildcats a 17-14 lead in the third quarter. Powell climbed up the Big 12 and national kick return rankings this week and currently ranks first in the league and 14th nationally with his 31.7 return average.
