Five Big 12 baseball student-athletes from four different programs were named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list.
Baylor leads the way in the Conference with two student-athletes on the list (left-handed pitcher Cody Bradford and catcher Shea Langeliers), while TCU southpaw Nick Lodolo, Texas Tech infielder Josh Jung and West Virginia right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah were also selected.
The preseason watch list features 55 of the nation’s top amateur players, from high school and college baseball. The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of players, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the season.
Of the five given Golden Spikes Award watch list honorees, four earned positions on the preseason All-Big Team. Previously, eight have been named finalists of the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, while two have been named recipients.
USA Baseball will announce the finalists on Wednesday, May 29, and fan voting will open at GoldenSpikesAward.com concurrently and will remain open through Monday, June 10.
The winner of the 42nd Golden Spikes Award will be named on Friday, June 14.
