The Big 12 Conference has announced the 2014 All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team, which includes the top three conference gymnasts with the highest regional qualifying score (RQS) in each event and two all-around competitors. RQS figures are based off the final regular season GymInfo Rankings.
Oklahoma led the way with seven selections while Iowa State received two selections and West Virginia claimed a selection in the all-around. Oklahoma’s Haley Scaman collected honors in three events (vault, bars, floor) and Taylor Spears received recognition in two events (bars, beam).
With her two selections this season, Spears has claimed a total of seven all-conference honors, having collected awards on beam in 2011, ’12, ’13 and all-around and floor in 2013. Scaman brings her total to five all-conference awards with her three-selections this season and recognition on vault and floor in 2013.
Scaman is ranked No. 1 nationally on the floor exercise and in the top 20 in vault (No. 5) and bars (No. 20).
Freshman Chayse Capps closes out an impressive first-year with accolades on the beam and the floor.
Camille Santerre-Gervais (Iowa State) picked up her second career all-conference honor on the bars this season after recognition in 2011.
West Virginia’s Hope Sloanhoffer was honored for her performance as an all-around competitor this season.
The 2014 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship is set for Saturday, March 22, at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W. Va. Competition is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT.
