Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day through July 23. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices on July 23-25 on Big12Sports. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today’s featured candidates are Oklahoma’s Maggie Nichols and Samaje Perine.

Samaje Perine; Football Jr;
^ Finished career as OU's all-time leading rusher (4,122 yards) despite turning pro after just three seasons
^ Named second-team All-Big 12 by league's coaches and AP despite missing three games with injury
^ Ranked third in Big 12 by averaging 106.0 rushing yards per game
^ Ranks fourth in OU history with 49 rushing touchdowns, fifth with 685 carries and sixth with 4,443 all-purpose yards
^ Averaged 137.5 rushing yards over his six Big 12 outings with nine scores
