CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

AUSTIN, TX - The Texas men's team captured gold in all seven events while UT's women took home six and maintained their lead on day three of the 2013 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Texas women (732 points) started the finals with wins from Katilin Pawlowicz in the 400-yard IM (4:11.80) and Kelsey Amundsen in the 100-yard butterfly (52.57). This was Amundsen's second 100 fly title and first since 2011.

After breaking the Big 12 Championship record in the 500-yard freestyle Thursday, WVU's Rachael Burnett took home another league title in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.22. Texas then won four-straight events, beginning with Laura Sogar's 100-yard breaststroke victory in an NCAA Automatic Qualifying time of 58.67. Longhorn Sarah Denninghoff added to her trophy haul with a 52.10 swim in the 100-yard backstroke.

On the diving board, Texas grabbed the top four spots as freshman Meghan Houston captured the 3-meter crown with a score of 338.65. In the final event of the night, a 200-yard freestyle relay win from Bethany Adams, Gretchen Jaques, Amundsen and Ellen Lobb of UT in a time of 1:29.71 was good enough to secure an NCAA Automatic Qualification.

After Day Three, West Virginia women sit in second place with 375 points, followed by TCU (369), Iowa State (341.5) and Kansas (326.5).

On the men's side, Texas (732 points) completed another sweep on Day Three. Austin Surhoff won his fourth career IM title and second of the meet, winning the 400-yard IM in a time of 3:45.11. UT has won that event now for 10 straight years at the Big 12 Championships.

Tripp Cooper followed up with a 100-yard butterfly victory in a time of 46.85 while Clay Youngquist took home his first individual Big 12 victory with a 1:33.71 time in the 200-yard freestyle, Texas' 16th victory in that event in 17 championships. Longhorn senior Dax Hill collected his third career individual accolade, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 53.33, the fastest time at the Championship since 2009.

Longhorn Kip Darmody nabbed his second career backstroke title, racing to victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 46.77. The sophomore also anchored the winning UT 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hill, Charlie Moore and Ben Anderson that posted a time of 1:18.64.

UT's Cory Bowersox picked up his second diving title of the meet, winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 416.25. The Longhorns took the top three scoring positions in the event.

In the men's standings, WVU and TCU are in second and third, respectively.

The schedule for the final day begins with prelims at 10 a.m., followed by the men's platform diving finals at 4:30 p.m., and swimming events beginning at 6 p.m. Team and individual trophy presentations will begin immediately following the conclusion of the 400-yard freestyle relay.
