Oklahoma State and Colorado Tied After Day One at Big 12 Menís Golf Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan
. --  The 2009 Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship is underway at the Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kan. Despite the windy and cold conditions on the course, several golfers produced noteworthy performances in both the first and second rounds of play.

After nearly two inches of rainfall the night before, the first round was delayed one hour with golfers teeing off at 9 a.m. Through the first 18 holes, only two players were under par as Baylor’s Bill Allcorn took the early lead shooting two under (68) ahead of Kansas State’s Robert Streb (69). Also in the first round, Iowa State’s Ben Herrera hit the first eagle of the day on the 17th hole. Team standings after the first round placed Oklahoma State ahead with a 293 (+13), followed by Texas Tech (+15) and Baylor (+17).

In round two, the pace of the afternoon began to pick up as temperatures were much warmer than the morning. BU’s Allcorn (68-71) and Colorado’s Derek Tolan (71-68) ended ahead of the pack individually with a two-round total of 139 (-1). In addition to Tolan, Texas A&M’s Bronson Burgoon and Andrea Pavan also shot two under in the second round. With two top-five individual performances, the Buffs squad moved into a two-way tie with the Cowboys with a score of 581 heading into day two. Rounding out the top five is A&M (585), Baylor (590) and Tech (599).

Day two of the 2009 Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship will tee off at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow, Tuesday, April 28. Admission is free to the public.
