Four Student-Athletes Featured in Sixth Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards
January 22, 2014

Student-athletes from Texas and West Virginia were recognized with swimming and diving weekly awards based on performances from Jan. 8 through Jan. 19. Bryce Bohman (WVU) was honored with the men’s swimming award while Michael Hixon (UT) garnered the diving accolade. On the women’s side, Lily Moldenhauer (UT) was named the swimmer of the week while Maren Taylor (UT) was awarded the diving honor for the second-consecutive week.

This week’s award marks the ninth for Taylor, third for Bohman and Hixon, and the second for Moldenhauer.

Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Bryce Bohman, West Virginia, Sr., Moline, Ill.
Bohman posted first-place finishes in five of his six individual events over the past two weeks, while also setting the pace for two 200 medley wins with his solid opening splits in the backstroke. Against Pitt, Bohman won all three of his events. His 100 back time of 48.82 beat the field by 1.8 seconds, while his 200 back time of 1:48.69 beat the field by over 2.8 seconds. He scored his third individual win of the day with a 49.92 time in the 100 fly. His 22.44 split in the 200 medley relay set the pace for the winning time of 1:30.86. At TCU, Bohman continued his success with two wins in the 100 back (48.54) and 100 fly (48.94), while he was narrowly edged in the 200 back and finished second (1:46.87).

Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Lily Moldenhauer, Texas, Sr., San Antonio, Texas
Moldenhauer defeated a reigning short course world champion in UT’s narrow loss to No. 3 Georgia. The senior defeated 2012 FINA Short Course World Champion (100m backstroke) Olivia Smoliga of Georgia in the 100 backstroke with a NCAA “B” cut of 53.32. The San Antonio native also claimed the 100 butterfly in 54.26 against Georgia. Moldenhauer completed a four-for-four effort against the third-ranked Bulldogs by helping Texas to wins in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Men’s Diver of the Week
Michael Hixon, Texas, Fr., Amherst, Mass.
Hixon won three of four diving events against top-10 foes Auburn and Georgia. The freshman logged a personal best of 496.73 points to win the threemeter event against Georgia. He completed the sweep of the Bulldogs with a winning total of 415.95 points on the one-meter board.

Women’s Diver of the Week
Maren Taylor, Texas, Sr., Arlington, Va.
Taylor won the three-meter event and added a runner-up finish on the one-meter board in UT’s win over No. 14 Auburn. She posted runner-up finishes on the one- and three-meter boards against No. 3 Georgia and finished second only to UGA’s Laura Ryan, an All-American and competitor at last summer’s World University Games.
