Swimmers Michael Lopresti (Missouri) and Laura Sogar (Texas) and diver Maren Taylor (Texas) have been named the first Big 12 Swimmers and Diver of the Week for the 2010-11 season. It is the first conference honor for Lopresti and Sogar and the third for Taylor. The Big 12 men's diving teams have not competed yet this season.
Men's Swimmer of the Week
Michael Lopresti, Missouri, Jr., Westerville, Ohio.
Lopresti won all three events in an Oct. 16 tri-meet with Southern Illinois and Kentucky. The junior claimed first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breast, with times of 58.06 and 2:07.34, respectively. Additionally, Lopresti was a part of Mizzou's 200 medley relay team that claimed first with a time of 1:32.54. He finished his split in 25.35.
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Laura Sogar, Texas, So., Exeter, R.I.
Sogar set a school record time of 2:10.15 in the 200 breaststroke, beating her own school record of 2:10.31 set at the 2010 Big 12 Championships. Sogar also claimed the 100-yard breaststroke at California in a time of 1:00.97. She placed second in the 400 individual medley, only falling behind Cal's Caitlin Leverenz, the 2010 U.S. National Champion in the event. Sogar was selected as CollegeSwimming.com's National Division I Women's Swimmer of the Week for her performance at Cal.
Women's Diver of the Week
Maren Taylor, Texas, So., Arlington, Va.
Taylor took first in the one-meter event at California, as she outdistanced her nearest competitor by 60 points. She then went on to lead a 1-2-3 Texas finish in the three-meter event, where she was victorious with a score of 310.13 points.
