Texas Swim & Dive Finishes Second at NCAA Championship

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Texas finished runner-up Saturday at the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Longhorns tallied 470.5 points and took home two national titles. Texas A&M recorded its 16th straight top 25 finish with a 13th-place effort and Missouri came in 22nd.

The second-place finish is the Longhorns' ninth in school history and gives head coach Eddie Reese his 26th NCAA top-3 finish in 33 seasons. California (493) edged out the defending champions as Stanford earned the bronze with 403 points.

Texas' Michael McBroom and Eric Friedland paced the men's squad with two victories. McBroom earned the first national title for UT in the 1650 freestyle with a mark of 14:32.86 followed by Friedland as he took home gold in the 200 breaststroke (1:52.43). The Longhorns placed in the top three in nine events during the Championship, including three second-place marks.

Texas A&M's diver Grant Nel earned All-America honors for the fourth time in his career including three top-3 finishes. The junior earned second place in the 1-meter and 3-meter events, respectively, and took home third in the platform event. The Aggies earned four All-American honors while Missouri's David Bonuchi earned the Tigers' two All-American honors. 

The top eight finishers in each event earned All-America honors.
