Four Seniors Receive Big 12 Swimming and Diving Weekly Recognition

Two Texas swimmers and two Texas A&M divers have been honored with Big 12 swimming and diving weekly awards for their efforts in the pool from Oct. 23 - Nov. 6. Neil Caskey (Texas) was given the men's swimming award, while Grant Nel (Texas A&M) earned the men's diving honor. On the women's side, Leah Gingrich (Texas) earned swimmer of the week and Jaele Patrick (Texas A&M) garnered the diver award. This is the first career recognition for Caskey, the second award for both Nel and Gringrich, while Patrick was honored for a fifth time.

Men's Swimmer of the Week
Neil Caskey, Texas, Sr., Houston, Texas

Caskey helped the Longhorns to a victory at the Southwest Collegiate Plunge with four first place finishes and two runner-up results. Swimming against Texas A&M, SMU and Missouri, the senior claimed the 200-yard IM in a time of 1:49.71 and won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:48.49. He also helped the 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams take the top spot, while placing second in the 100-yard butterfly. Last weekend, against Michigan and Indiana, Caskey took second in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly and aided the 200-yard freestyle and medley relay teams to top finishes.

Men's Diver of the Week
Grant Nel, Texas A&M, Sr., Melbourne, Australia
Nel won the 3-meter diving event at the Southwest College Plunge with a score of 450.25. The senior also took third in the 1-meter competition by turning in a 357.80. The Southwest College Plunge also featured divers from Missouri, SMU and Texas.

Women's Swimmer of the Week
Leah Gingrich, Texas, Sr., Enola, Pa.
Gingrich led Texas to wins over Michigan and Indiana by turning in three first place finishes in individual events. The senior won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle in times of 1:48.34 and 4:46.22, while also taking top honors in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:17.27. She followed up that performance by helping Texas down Texas A&M with three individual victories in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle as well as the 200-yard butterfly.

Women's Diver of the Week
Jaele Patrick, Texas A&M, Sr., Lilydale, Australia
Patrick went a perfect 4-for-4 by earning wins in the both the 1 and 3-meter diving events in two separate meets against Missouri and Texas. The senior recorded scores of 324.08 and 370.95 in the 1 and 3-meter events respectively versus Missouri. Against the Longhorns, Patrick upped both of those scores to 327.08 and 377.93.
