The Big 12 Conference has named 100 student-athletes to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Swimming & Diving Team, the league office announced.
Among those honored, six represented with a 4.00 GPA - Sarah Nelson (Iowa State), Sarah Gandy (Texas) and Texas A&M's Alyssa Conner, Cheyne Hermes, Megan Onstott and Paul-Marc Schweitzer.
On the women's side, Texas and Texas A&M led all teams with 17 members each. The Aggies recorded 15 first team members, while the Longhorns had 14. For the men, Texas paced the group of honorees with 12 overall, while Texas A&M had nine first team distinctions.
The Academic All-Big 12 Swimming & Diving Team includes 80 (22 men, 58 women) first team honorees and 20 (nine men, 11 women) second team members.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
