Oberste becomes the first Sooner to win the Player honor in back-to-back weeks since 2011 when Garrett Buechele picked up the award in the season's opening two weeks.
This is the first career award for Masek and Rice.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Oberste, Oklahoma, Jr., INF, Salisaw, Okla./Connors State College
Oberste continued his hot start to the 2013 season, helping the Sooners go 5-0 last week to open the campaign with a perfect 9-0 mark. The infielder hit .450 with a team-high nine hits - including two doubles and two home runs - to go along with a team-high eight RBI and four runs scored. He has hit safely in all nine games this season and 12 consecutive games dating back to 2012. Oberste tallied three multi-hit and multi-RBI games last week and leads OU with five multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games in 2013. He leads the Big 12 in hits (15), home runs (3), RBI (17), total bases (29) and slugging percentage (.853).
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Trey Masek, Texas Tech, Jr., RHP, Giddings, Texas/Giddings
On Sunday against Connecticut, Masek pitched nine shutout innings with seven strikeouts while allowing just five hits and one walk during Texas Tech's 1-0 loss in 11 innings in the UCF Weekend Classic in Orlando. Masek retired 16 of the first 17 batters he faced while recording at least one strikeout in five of nine innings pitched. He struck out a pair of batters in both the second and eighth innings. His nine innings pitched marked a career high while his seven strikeouts are the second most in a game during his career. Masek is 1-0 this season with a perfect 0.00 ERA in 15 innings of work. He is the first Red Raider starting pitcher with back-to-back scoreless starts since 2009 (A.J. Ramos - three straight).
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Jacob Rice, West Virginia, Jr., OF, Tulsa, Okla./Eastern Oklahoma State College
Rice led the Mountaineers to two wins in four games this past weekend batting .563 (9-for-16) with three runs, one double, three RBI, three stolen bases and a sacrifice fly. He recorded a hit in every game, including a 4-for-5 performance in a win against Wake Forest in which he recorded a run, an RBI and a stolen base. The junior also had two hits in the second game against Youngstown St. and the final game against Wake Forest.
