Buechele, Jungmann & Tomlinson Earn First Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Weekly Awards

Garrett Buechele (Oklahoma) has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, while Taylor Jungmann (Texas) is the Pitcher of the Week for games of Feb. 14-20. Texas Tech's Kelby Tomlinson has been tabbed the inaugural Newcomer of the Week.  Buechele earns the second weekly accolade of his career while Jungmann and Tomlinson are honored for the first time.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
 
Garrett Buechele, Oklahoma, 3B, Jr., 6-0,  205, Arlington, Texas/Lamar HS
Buechele started the 2011 season with a home run in each of the first three games along with multiple-hit performances in all four contests over the weekend.  He batted .625 (10-for-16) and slugged 1.188 with three homers, five RBIs and four runs scored.  The junior All-American also walked twice and was hit by a pitch on two occasions against William & Mary.  In the season opener, Buechele singled in his first at-bat and homered in his second to finish 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  He duplicated the performance and finished Saturday's doubleheader with four hits, including two homers and three RBIs. Buechele had a season-high four base hits and also reached on a hit by pitch in Sunday's series finale. He leads the Big 12 in total bases (19), hits (10) and home runs (3).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
 
Taylor Jungmann, Texas, RHP, Jr. 6-6, 220, Temple, Texas/Georgetown
Out of the Big 12's six shutouts on opening weekend, Jungmann was the only pitcher to record a complete game. It marked the first career complete-game shutout for Jungmann.  The right-handed All-American used 95 pitches to hold Maryland scoreless.  Jungmann limited the Terrapins to five hits and one walk while striking out nine over 9.0 innings in UT's 8-0 victory.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
 
Kelby Tomlinson, Texas Tech, SS, Jr., 6-3, 175, Elgin, Okla./Seward County CC
Tomlinson was named the Red Raider Classic's Most Outstanding Player after leading Texas Tech to a 4-0 start. He batted .583 (7-for-12) with three runs, five walks and a Big 12-leading five stolen bases (six attempts) with a .667 on-base percentage.  The Seward County Community College-transfer reached base safely in 12-of-20 plate appearances.  Tomlinson also had a pair of multi-hit games over the weekend including a 4-for-5 performance on Sunday against Northwestern. He became the first Red Raider with four base hits this season and posted the first four-hit performance for TTU since April 30, 2010.  The junior shortstop also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases against the Wildcats in the first contest on Saturday.
