Ogle, Stripling & Johnson Earn Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Weekly Honors
April 18, 2011

Tyler Ogle (Oklahoma), Ross Stripling (Texas A&M) and Zach Johnson (Oklahoma State) have earned Phillips 66 Big 12 baseball weekly honors for games of April 11-17, in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference.  This is the first career selection for Ogle, who becomes the third Sooner to claim the award this year marking just the third time (2004, 2001) that OU has collected three Player of the Week honors in the same season. Stripling garnered his second Pitcher of the Week distinction of the 2011 campaign. The Aggies have had a hurler earn the honor multiple times in eight seasons. Johnson, Newcomer of the Week, capture his first distinction, but third Newcomer award for the Cowboys this year.

Tyler Ogle, Oklahoma, Jr., C, 5-11, 193, San Antonio, Texas (Canyon H.S.)
In four games against ranked competition (No. 9 TCU and No. 18 Oklahoma State) last week, Ogle hit .647 (11-for-17) with one double, three homers, eight runs scored and 11 RBI. He also slugged at a 1.235 clip with a .650 on-base percentage (walk and HBP) and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate. The junior recorded two four-hit games and three multi-hit contests in four games played last week, tying a career high with four hits in games one and three versus OSU with three RBI in each game against the Cowboys.  The San Antonio, Texas, product finished with a .714 batting average that included 10 base hits, two homers and nine RBI in the Bedlam series. The pair of long balls against OSU marked the first multi-homer game of Ogle's career and the first by a Sooner since Cody Reine had two against then-No. 1 Virginia in the 2010 Charlottesville Super Regional. He entered the weekend with eight games played against OSU, but zero runs driven in.

Ogle ranks fifth in the Big 12 with a .367 batting average and ranks second for the Sooners with 31 RBI. He is tied for third in the league with seven homers with teammate Garrett Buechele and has hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games with six multi-hit games.

Ross Stripling, Texas A&M, Jr., RHP, Southlake, Texas (Carroll)
Stripling's first career complete game, a four-hitter, proved to be the driving force behind the Aggies' 2-1 victory over Baylor in Sunday's rubber match. The win gave Texas A&M its fifth consecutive series victory to begin Big 12 play and was Stripling's team-leading seventh on the mound. After the first two batters of the game hit safely off the junior to give Baylor a 1-0 lead, the Aggie right-hander settled into a groove. Beginning with the final batter of the third inning, the Southlake, Texas, native retired 15 consecutive batters and 19 of the game's final 20 hitters, putting up 1-2-3 frames in all but one inning from the fourth through the ninth.  The Aggie offense plated two late runs to reward Stripling for his performance which included eight punch outs and just two walks in the 116-pitch effort. Stripling is tied for third in the Big 12 with seven wins and ranks sixth in strikeouts, while also holding opponents to a .220 batting average.

Zach Johnson, Oklahoma State, Jr., 1B, 5-11, 192, San Ramon, Calif. (Ohlone JC)
Johnson helped the Cowboys to three wins in four games last week, including OSU's first series win against Bedlam-rival Oklahoma since 2008. The junior first baseman led the Cowboys with a .412 batting average (7-for-17) with two doubles, five RBI and five runs. He also led the squad with a .706 slugging percentage. In helping lead OSU to two upset wins over No. 8 OU, Johnson had five hits in 13 at bats (.385), including a team-best two doubles, and was second on the club with four RBI. In the series-deciding finale, Johnson was 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles and scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. The junior transfer from Ohlone JC ranks in the Big 12's top three in runs scored, doubles and RBI and owns the sixth-best batting average in the league.
